Visceral Manipulation in Rockingham

Sometimes the place you feel discomfort isn’t the whole story

The body is deeply connected. Muscles, joints, organs, nerves and connective tissue all move and work together, which means tension in one area may influence how another area feels or functions.

Visceral Manipulation is a gentle, hands-on technique that focuses on the internal organs and the connective tissue surrounding them. At Health Shack, this specialised approach can be incorporated into selected remedial massage appointments with Aurelia.

What is Visceral Manipulation?

Your organs aren’t fixed rigidly in place. They move naturally as you breathe, stretch and go about your day. This movement is supported by fascia, a network of connective tissue linking structures throughout the body.

Surgery, scar tissue, injury, inflammation, posture and ongoing physical or emotional stress may affect how freely these tissues move. Visceral Manipulation uses light, precise pressure to assess and work with areas of tension or restriction.

Unlike deep tissue massage, the technique is usually gentle and highly targeted. The aim is to encourage more comfortable movement within the tissues while supporting the way the body functions as a whole.

Why work with the organs and fascia?

Fascia connects the body from head to toe. When one area becomes restricted, other areas may adapt or compensate.

For example, tension around an old abdominal scar may influence movement through the trunk, diaphragm or surrounding muscles. Rather than focusing only on where discomfort is felt, Visceral Manipulation considers whether connected tissues may also be contributing to the overall pattern.

It is another way we can look beyond the sore spot and treat you as a whole person, not simply a collection of symptoms.

When may Visceral Manipulation be considered?

Aurelia may incorporate Visceral Manipulation into your remedial massage when appropriate, particularly when working with:

  • Persistent areas of tension or restriction

  • Reduced ease of movement through the abdomen or trunk

  • Fully healed scar tissue following surgery or injury

  • Patterns of discomfort involving several connected areas

  • Tension that has not responded as expected to other massage techniques

  • Clients who prefer a gentle, whole-body treatment approach

Every person is different. Aurelia will discuss your health history, current symptoms and goals before deciding whether this technique is suitable for you.

What happens during treatment?

Your appointment begins with a conversation about what you have been experiencing and any relevant injuries, surgery or health concerns.

Aurelia uses gentle palpation to assess how different areas of the body and surrounding tissues are moving. If Visceral Manipulation is appropriate, she may apply light, specific pressure to areas of restriction as part of your remedial massage treatment.

Your care will always be tailored to your comfort, needs and individual health goals.

Frequently asked questions

Is Visceral Manipulation painful?

Visceral Manipulation is generally a gentle technique. Pressure is carefully adjusted to your comfort, and you can ask Aurelia to pause or change the treatment at any time.

Do I need to book a separate appointment?

Not necessarily. Visceral Manipulation can be included in a remedial massage appointment with Aurelia when appropriate. Please request it when booking so we can allow for your treatment needs. If this is a treatment you want, you can book for just this service also.

Is it suitable for everyone?

Not always. Please tell us if you are pregnant, have recently undergone surgery, have a significant health condition or are experiencing new or unexplained symptoms. Aurelia will determine whether treatment is appropriate or whether you should speak with another healthcare provider first.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends on your health history, symptoms and goals. Aurelia will discuss her recommendations with you following your assessment.
